Freedom Tower is a sign of hope and freedom, and the believe that democracy should be availed to all who fight against cruel and oppressive government or rule. At first, it was built in 1925 as the headquarters of the local newspaper, known as The Miami News. Following the 1959 Cuban Revolution, Freedom towers was reverted to a home for refugees who sought political asylum in the United States, from the regime of Fidel Castro, where they received services and support until 1974.

In 1979, The Freedom tower was listed in the Register of Historic Places.Then, Jorge Mas Canosa, Leader of the Cuban American National Foundation, turned the building into a monument to the Cuban American Experience.
In 2004, Pedro Martin, a prominent Cuban American, bought and donated the building to Miami Dade College (MDC). The MDC is now a home to the MDC's prestigious caltural programs: The Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) and the MDC special collections, which are the Cuban Legacy Gallery, The Kislak Center, and the exile experience. Some notable artwork within the tower are: Memorial Cubano which was created by Jose Martinez Viega, and The New World Mural which is located in the second floor. The Freedom tower is now an iconic Landmark in the heart of Miami.

Freedom Tower is located near Waterfront, overlooking Biscayne Bay.Today, it is a caltural and educational center that hosts various events, exhibition and art installations. Inside the museum, there are beautiful wedding receptions and meeting places. The art of decoration styles are among the many features that are being displayed in the Miami Dade College in this era.
The Miami Dade College also offers guided tours of the Freedom tower, in which visitors learn about its history, architecture, and cultural significance.
